  • Tasting notes : The 2008 Westend Estate Cool Climate Tempranillo is a wine that will definitely excite, starting from the bright garnet/purple colour. The complex bouquet gives images of fresh red fruits, sweet spiciness, and cedar oak. On the palate the senses will continue to be excited by the fruit flavours that are held together with fine seductive velvety tannins.

  • Winemakers Comment : The fruit for the Tempranillo was carefully selected from vineyards in the Hilltops region near Young. Hand harvested grapes were delivered to Westend Estate where they were then fermented in traditional open fermenters. Nearing the end of ferment the grapes were pressed in a bag press and put into French Oak Barriques and Hogsheads for a minimum of 12months. The Tempranillo was gently racked, stabilized and bottled with minimal filtration.

  • Food Accompaniment : Tempura zucchini flowers and Roast Chicken with parsnip mash and asparagus.

“Well – oh gosh – this is just terrific. We don’t expect to taste a better value Tempranillo in a hurry – this deserves to race off the shelves. The big hope is that it is widely distributed, because it has the ability to put Tempranillo on the everyday drinking map. It’s sweet and sour and nutty at once, its cuddly texture and racy acidity making it, miraculously, both satisfying and refreshing. BRAVO!” AUTHORS PICK - Campbell Mattinson, The Big Red Wine Book 2009/10
